A quick and easy small-batch detox shot made with fresh ginger, turmeric, lemon, and black pepper. This bright, warming shot is perfect for mornings and supports digestion and immunity.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2-inch piece fresh ginger root
  • 1-inch piece fresh turmeric root
  • 1 medium lemon (juice and zest)
  • Pinch of freshly ground black pepper
  • 23 tablespoons filtered water
  • 1/2 teaspoon raw honey (optional)
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Scrub the ginger and turmeric roots thoroughly under running water. Pat dry and cut into small pieces.
  2. Grate the ginger and turmeric using a microplane or the smallest holes of a box grater into a small bowl.
  3. Zest half the lemon into the bowl, then squeeze the juice from both halves (about 2 tablespoons).
  4. Add 2 tablespoons filtered water and a generous pinch of freshly ground black pepper. Add honey or cayenne if using. Stir well and let sit for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Place a fine mesh strainer over a small measuring cup or jar. Pour the mixture through the strainer, pressing on the pulp with a spoon to extract as much liquid as possible.
  6. Taste and adjust: add more water if too strong, or more honey if desired.
  7. Transfer the strained liquid to a clean jar with a lid. Store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Notes

Use fresh turmeric root for best flavor and color. Turmeric stains everything, so wear gloves and use glass jars. Let the mixture sit before straining to enhance flavor extraction. Adjust ginger to your spice tolerance. The black pepper is essential for curcumin absorption.
