blackberry bourbon smash cocktail - featured image

A bright and fruity summer cocktail combining fresh blackberries, mint, lime, and bourbon for a refreshing and flavorful drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 810 fresh blackberries
  • 810 fresh mint leaves
  • 1 medium lime, cut into wedges
  • 2 oz bourbon whiskey
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup
  • Ice cubes
  • 12 oz soda water (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing glass, place 8-10 fresh blackberries and 8-10 mint leaves. Gently muddle with a muddler or spoon for 20-30 seconds to release juice and aroma without crushing seeds or tearing mint too harshly.
  2. Squeeze the juice of half a lime (about 1 oz) into the glass, then add 0.5 oz simple syrup.
  3. Add 2 oz bourbon to the muddled mixture.
  4. Fill the glass about three-quarters full with ice.
  5. Shake gently for 10-15 seconds if using a shaker, or stir gently if mixing in the glass.
  6. Strain the mixture into a fresh glass filled with ice, using a fine mesh strainer if desired.
  7. Top with 1-2 oz soda water for a lighter, fizzy finish (optional).
  8. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint, a lime wedge, and a few whole blackberries.

Notes

Gently muddle the mint and blackberries to avoid bitterness. Use fresh lime juice for best flavor. Adjust sweetness by adding more or less simple syrup. For a lighter version, add soda water or replace half the bourbon with sparkling water or ginger beer. Frozen blackberries can be used if thawed first.
