A simple, icy summer drink blending tart lemonade, sweet blackberries, and fresh sage for a refreshing and sophisticated slushie.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (150g) fresh blackberries (frozen can be used)
  • 68 fresh sage leaves, washed and roughly chopped
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) fresh lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) simple syrup (homemade or store-bought)
  • 3 cups (about 450g) ice cubes
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) cold water

Instructions

  1. Prepare simple syrup by combining equal parts sugar and water (1/3 cup each) in a small saucepan. Heat gently, stirring until sugar dissolves. Cool completely before using.
  2. Roll lemons on the counter, cut in half, and juice to extract 1/2 cup (120ml) fresh lemon juice, removing any seeds.
  3. Rinse blackberries under cold water and roughly chop sage leaves.
  4. In a blender, combine blackberries, sage leaves, simple syrup, lemon juice, and cold water. Blend on medium speed until smooth and sage is finely incorporated.
  5. Add ice cubes to the blended mixture. Pulse on high speed until slushie consistency is reached (thick but drinkable).
  6. Taste and adjust consistency by adding more water if too thick, or more simple syrup if not sweet enough. Blend briefly after adjustments.
  7. Serve immediately in chilled tall glasses, garnished with a fresh sage leaf and a few whole blackberries.

Notes

Use fresh lemon juice for best flavor. Smaller ice cubes blend better. For smoother texture, strain blackberry mixture before adding ice. Serve immediately to enjoy perfect icy texture. Variations include swapping sage for basil or mint, using different berries or peaches, and adding alcohol for adult version.
