A quick and easy homemade summer cocktail featuring fresh blueberries and a subtle lavender infusion, perfect for backyard gatherings and warm evenings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries (plus extra for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon dried culinary lavender buds (food-grade)
  • 1/2 cup simple syrup (homemade with equal parts sugar and water, infused with lavender)
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice (about 2 lemons)
  • 1 cup gin or vodka
  • Sparkling water (to top off)
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Make the lavender simple syrup: In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 1/2 cup water. Add 1 tablespoon dried culinary lavender. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Let simmer for 2 minutes, then remove from heat and steep for 10 minutes. Strain out lavender buds and let syrup cool completely (about 20-30 minutes).
  2. Muddle the blueberries: Place 1 cup fresh blueberries in a mixing glass or cocktail shaker. Using a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon, gently press the blueberries just enough to release their juice without crushing the seeds.
  3. Add liquids: Pour in 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice, 1 cup gin or vodka, and 1/4 cup cooled lavender simple syrup into the muddled blueberries. Add ice cubes to fill the shaker or glass halfway.
  4. Shake or stir: If using a cocktail shaker, secure the lid tightly and shake vigorously for 15 seconds. If using a mixing glass, stir well with a bar spoon for about 20 seconds to chill and combine.
  5. Strain and serve: Using a fine mesh strainer, pour the mixture into two glasses filled with fresh ice.
  6. Top with sparkling water: Add 2-3 ounces sparkling water to each glass for a light fizz.
  7. Garnish and enjoy: Drop a few fresh blueberries and a small sprig of mint or lavender on top.

Notes

Use food-grade culinary lavender to avoid bitterness. Do not over-muddle blueberries to prevent bitterness from seeds. Chill glasses ahead for a crisper cocktail. Adjust sweetness with extra lemon juice or simple syrup as needed. For non-alcoholic version, omit gin or vodka and add extra sparkling water or white grape juice.
