classic margarita on the rocks recipe - featured image

A simple, classic margarita cocktail made with fresh lime juice, tequila blanco, triple sec, and a salted rim. Perfectly refreshing and easy to prepare for summer gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz (60 ml) tequila blanco (100% agave)
  • 1 oz (30 ml) fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz (30 ml) triple sec or Cointreau
  • 0.5 oz (15 ml) simple syrup (optional)
  • Ice cubes
  • Coarse salt for rimming the glass
  • Lime wedges for rimming and garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare your glass by rubbing a lime wedge along the rim, then dip the rim into coarse salt to coat evenly. Set aside.
  2. Juice fresh limes to obtain about 1 oz (30 ml) of lime juice. Strain if desired.
  3. In a cocktail shaker, combine 2 oz (60 ml) tequila blanco, 1 oz (30 ml) fresh lime juice, 1 oz (30 ml) triple sec or Cointreau, and 0.5 oz (15 ml) simple syrup if using.
  4. Add 1 to 1.5 cups (240-360 ml) of ice cubes to the shaker.
  5. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until well chilled.
  6. Strain the mixture into the prepared glass filled with fresh ice cubes.
  7. Garnish with a lime wedge or a thin lime wheel on top.

Notes

Use freshly squeezed lime juice for best flavor. Use coarse salt for the rim. Adjust sweetness by varying simple syrup amount or substituting agave nectar. Shake vigorously to chill and dilute properly. Avoid over-diluting by not filling the glass with too much ice before pouring.
