cucumber elderflower spritzer recipe - featured image

A light and refreshing summer drink combining crisp cucumber, floral elderflower cordial, and sparkling water for a perfect cool-down beverage.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium cucumber, thinly sliced (preferably English or Persian cucumber)
  • 3 tablespoons elderflower cordial
  • 1 cup (8 fl oz) sparkling water, chilled, plain or lightly flavored
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (about half a lemon)
  • Ice cubes, preferably large
  • A small handful fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)
  • Optional sweetener: 1 teaspoon honey, agave syrup, or simple syrup

Instructions

  1. Rinse the cucumber thoroughly and slice into thin rounds about 1/8 inch thick. Peel partially or fully if desired to reduce bitterness.
  2. In a large glass or small pitcher, combine elderflower cordial and fresh lemon juice. Stir gently to blend. Add sweetener if desired and adjust to taste.
  3. Add half of the sliced cucumber to the mixture and stir gently. Let sit 5โ€“10 minutes for stronger cucumber flavor if preferred.
  4. Fill the glass or pitcher halfway with large ice cubes.
  5. Slowly pour chilled sparkling water over the mixture and stir gently to combine without losing fizz.
  6. Garnish with remaining cucumber slices and fresh mint leaves. Optionally add a thin lemon wheel. Serve immediately.

Notes

Slice cucumber as thin as possible to avoid bitterness. Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for best brightness. Pour sparkling water gently to preserve fizz. Mint is optional but recommended for aroma. Prepare spritzer just before serving to keep bubbles fresh. Can add a splash of gin or vodka for an alcoholic version.
