A quick and easy frozen twist on the classic mint julep cocktail, perfect for cooling down on hot summer days with a smooth, minty, and boozy slushie texture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz bourbon whiskey
  • About 12 fresh mint leaves
  • 1 oz simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water)
  • 2 cups crushed ice
  • ยฝ tsp lemon juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the simple syrup by combining equal parts sugar and water in a small saucepan. Heat gently, stirring until sugar dissolves. Cool before using.
  2. Place fresh mint leaves in the blender jar. Use a muddler or wooden spoon to gently press the leaves about 10 times to release oils without shredding.
  3. Pour 2 oz bourbon and 1 oz simple syrup over the muddled mint. Add ยฝ tsp lemon juice if desired.
  4. Fill the blender with 2 cups crushed ice. If you donโ€™t have crushed ice, pulse ice cubes in the blender until finely crushed.
  5. Pulse on medium-high until the mixture is smooth and slushy, about 15-20 seconds. Avoid overblending to keep a fluffy, icy texture.
  6. Immediately pour into chilled glasses. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint and a straw.

Notes

Use fresh mint leaves for best flavor. Do not over-muddle or overblend to avoid bitterness and watery texture. Chill glasses ahead to keep the drink colder longer. For a non-alcoholic version, replace bourbon with sparkling water or ginger ale. Simple syrup can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to two weeks.
