A bold yet balanced spicy margarita pitcher that combines the heat of jalapeños with tangy lime, smooth tequila, and a hint of sweetness from agave nectar. Perfect for summer gatherings and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (480 ml) Tequila Blanco (100% agave recommended)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) Fresh lime juice (about 810 limes)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) Orange liqueur (Triple Sec or Cointreau)
  • 1/3 cup (80 ml) Agave nectar
  • 2 medium jalapeños, sliced thin (seeds removed for milder heat)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) Sparkling water (optional)
  • Ice cubes, as needed
  • Salt, for rimming glasses (coarse sea salt preferred)
  • Fresh cilantro or lime wheels, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Slice 2 medium jalapeños thinly, removing seeds if you prefer less heat. Add the slices to a large pitcher and pour in the tequila blanco. Let it steep for 10-15 minutes to infuse the spicy flavor gently. For stronger heat, steep up to 30 minutes, tasting frequently.
  2. Juice about 8-10 fresh limes to yield 1 cup (240 ml) of lime juice. Strain through a fine sieve to remove seeds and excessive pulp for a smooth finish.
  3. After infusing, add the fresh lime juice, 1/2 cup (120 ml) orange liqueur, and 1/3 cup (80 ml) agave nectar to the pitcher. Stir well with a long spoon until the agave nectar is fully dissolved.
  4. Taste the margarita base and adjust sweetness or heat by adding more agave nectar or jalapeño slices as desired. Let it sit for another 5 minutes to marry the flavors.
  5. Right before serving, pour in 1 cup (240 ml) sparkling water for a light fizz (optional). Add plenty of ice cubes to chill the pitcher and slightly dilute the bold flavors.
  6. Rub lime wedges around the rims of serving glasses and dip them into coarse sea salt to create a salted rim. Fill each glass with ice.
  7. Pour the margarita into the prepared glasses and garnish with fresh lime wheels or a sprig of cilantro.

Notes

For milder heat, remove jalapeño seeds or substitute with cucumber slices. Infuse tequila with jalapeños up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerate for convenience. Use fresh lime juice for best flavor. Avoid over-diluting with ice before serving. Chill glasses before rimming with salt to help salt stick better. Stir gently after adding sparkling water to preserve fizz.
