Refreshing Long Island Iced Tea Recipe - featured image

An easy homemade cocktail that balances sweet, tart, and boozy flavors with freshly squeezed lemon juice and a splash of cola. Perfect for casual gatherings and summer parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 15 ml (1/2 oz) vodka, plain and clean-tasting
  • 15 ml (1/2 oz) white rum, light and not too sweet
  • 15 ml (1/2 oz) gin, London dry style
  • 15 ml (1/2 oz) tequila, blanco
  • 15 ml (1/2 oz) triple sec, orange-flavored liqueur
  • 30 ml (1 oz) fresh lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • 15 ml (1/2 oz) simple syrup, homemade or store-bought
  • 6090 ml (23 oz) chilled classic cola
  • Ice cubes, plenty to fill the glass
  • Lemon wedge or slice for garnish

Instructions

  1. Fill the cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes (about 8-10 cubes).
  2. Add 15 ml (1/2 oz) each of vodka, white rum, gin, tequila, and triple sec to the shaker.
  3. Add 30 ml (1 oz) fresh lemon juice and 15 ml (1/2 oz) simple syrup to the shaker.
  4. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until well chilled and slightly frothy.
  5. Fill a highball glass with fresh ice cubes to the top.
  6. Strain the shaken mixture into the glass over the ice.
  7. Gently pour 60-90 ml (2-3 oz) chilled cola on top to maintain carbonation.
  8. Garnish with a lemon wedge or slice on the rim and serve immediately.

Notes

Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for best flavor. Shake the spirits and lemon juice before adding cola to preserve carbonation and blend flavors. Adjust sweetness by varying simple syrup. For a lighter version, use diet cola or sparkling water with cola concentrate. Store leftover mix without cola in the fridge up to 24 hours.
