A quick and easy mojito recipe using fresh mint leaves, lime, sugar, rum, and sparkling water. Perfect for summer parties and refreshing gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1012 sprigs fresh mint leaves (about 1520 leaves), washed and patted dry
  • 1 medium lime, cut into wedges
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar (caster sugar can be used)
  • 2 ounces white rum
  • 46 ounces sparkling water (club soda or soda water), chilled
  • Ice cubes, plenty to fill the glass

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the fresh mint leaves. Cut the lime into 6 wedges and have sugar and ice ready.
  2. In a highball glass, place 8-10 mint leaves and 3 lime wedges. Add 2 teaspoons of granulated sugar on top.
  3. Using a muddler, gently press down on the mint and lime to release oils and juice without pulverizing the mint. This takes about 1-2 minutes.
  4. Pour in 2 ounces of white rum over the muddled mixture. Stir gently with a bar spoon to blend.
  5. Fill the glass almost to the top with ice cubes.
  6. Pour 4-6 ounces of chilled sparkling water over the ice. Stir gently once more to combine flavors.
  7. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint and a lime wheel on the rim of the glass. Serve immediately.

Notes

Avoid over-muddling the mint to prevent bitterness. Use fresh lime juice for best flavor. Serve immediately to enjoy the fizz and aroma. For non-alcoholic version, omit rum and add extra sparkling water or lemon-lime soda.
