A light, fragrant, and utterly refreshing Persian drink featuring saffron and rose water, perfect for warm weather and elegant gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1015 saffron threads
  • 2 tablespoons rose water
  • 1/4 cup (50 grams) granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 4 cups (1 liter) cold water
  • Ice cubes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place 10-15 saffron threads in a small bowl with 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of warm water. Let it steep for 10 minutes until the water turns a rich golden-yellow color.
  2. In a pitcher, combine 1/4 cup (50 grams) granulated sugar with 2 tablespoons (30 ml) fresh lemon juice. Stir well until the sugar dissolves completely.
  3. Pour 2 tablespoons of rose water into the pitcher and stir gently to blend the floral notes evenly.
  4. Add the saffron water (including threads if preferred) into the pitcher and stir to mix all the flavors together.
  5. Pour in 4 cups (1 liter) of cold water and stir thoroughly to combine all ingredients.
  6. Refrigerate the drink for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld and the drink cool. Alternatively, add ice cubes right before serving.
  7. Serve chilled over ice in glasses. Optionally garnish with a few saffron threads or edible rose petals.

Notes

Soak saffron in warm water for 10 minutes to release full flavor and color. Use fresh lemon juice for best brightness. Adjust sugar to taste. Chill well before serving. Store in fridge up to 2 days without ice to avoid dilution. Optionally strain saffron threads for a smoother drink.
