A simple, visually stunning patriotic cocktail featuring layered strawberry, lemonade-vodka, and blueberry purees, perfect for summer parties and slow celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemonade
  • 2 ounces vodka
  • Ice cubes
  • 1/2 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Fresh lemon slices (for garnish)
  • Whole blueberries and sliced strawberries (for garnish)
  • Mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Red Strawberry Layer: Place strawberries, sugar, and water in a blender and blend until smooth. Strain through a fine mesh sieve to remove seeds and pulp. Chill in the fridge.
  2. Make the Blueberry Layer: Blend blueberries, sugar (if using), and water until smooth. Strain through a fine mesh sieve and chill.
  3. Prepare the White Lemonade Layer: Combine freshly squeezed lemonade and vodka in a pitcher. Add ice cubes to chill. Adjust vodka to taste if desired.
  4. Layer the Drink: Fill a tall clear glass about 1/3 full with the red strawberry mixture, pouring slowly. Gently pour the white lemonade-vodka mix over the back of a spoon above the red layer. Finally, layer the blue blueberry mixture on top using the same spoon technique.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Add a lemon slice, a few blueberries, and a sprig of mint. Serve immediately with a straw.

Notes

Chill all layers before assembling to keep layers distinct. Pour liquids slowly over the back of a spoon to maintain separation. Strain berry purees to remove seeds and pulp for smooth texture. Use a clean, neutral vodka like Tito’s for best flavor. Frozen berries work well and help keep layers distinct. For a non-alcoholic version, replace vodka with sparkling water or club soda.
