A quick and easy sparkling blueberry lemonade that’s tart, sweet, and fizzy, perfect for summer gatherings or a refreshing solo treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (300 grams) blueberries, fresh or frozen
  • 1 cup (240 ml) freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 45 medium lemons)
  • 3/4 cup (150 grams) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (240 ml) warm water
  • 4 cups (960 ml) chilled sparkling water
  • A handful of fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)
  • Lemon slices (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Make the Simple Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine 3/4 cup granulated sugar and 1 cup warm water. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  2. Juice the Lemons: Roll lemons on the counter to soften, then cut and juice until you have 1 cup of fresh lemon juice. Strain to remove seeds and pulp if desired.
  3. Muddle the Blueberries: Place the 2 cups of blueberries in the bottom of a large pitcher. Gently muddle them with a wooden muddler or the back of a spoon until they release juice and a purple hue forms, leaving some berries whole.
  4. Combine Ingredients: Pour the cooled simple syrup and lemon juice over the muddled blueberries in the pitcher. Stir gently to mix.
  5. Add Sparkling Water: Slowly pour in 4 cups of chilled sparkling water. Stir lightly to keep the bubbles intact.
  6. Garnish and Chill: Add fresh mint leaves and lemon slices. Place the pitcher in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to chill and let flavors meld.
  7. Serve: Pour over ice-filled glasses. Optionally, add a few whole blueberries to each glass. Enjoy immediately.

Notes

Add sparkling water last and stir gently to preserve bubbles. Do not over-muddle blueberries to avoid muddy texture. Fresh lemon juice is preferred for brightness. Prepare simple syrup and lemon juice ahead if desired, but add sparkling water and blueberries just before serving to keep fizz. For a boozy option, add vodka or gin before sparkling water. Store leftovers covered in fridge up to 2 days; add fresh sparkling water before serving to revive fizz.
