whiskey smash cocktail - featured image

A bright and playful cocktail combining fresh mint, lemon, and whiskey for a crisp, refreshing drink perfect for spring and summer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz bourbon or rye whiskey
  • 810 fresh mint leaves, gently torn
  • 1 medium lemon, juiced (about 1 oz)
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup (homemade or store-bought)
  • Crushed ice, enough to fill the glass
  • Lemon wedge for garnish
  • Fresh mint sprig for garnish
  • Optional: splash of club soda

Instructions

  1. Prepare your ingredients by gathering fresh mint leaves, juicing the lemon, and measuring whiskey and simple syrup.
  2. Place mint leaves and simple syrup into a glass or cocktail shaker. Gently muddle the mint to release oils without bruising the leaves too much.
  3. Add freshly squeezed lemon juice and whiskey to the muddled mint mixture.
  4. Fill the glass or shaker with crushed ice to chill the drink.
  5. Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds if using a shaker, or stir gently if using a glass.
  6. Strain the cocktail into a rocks glass filled with fresh crushed ice, or pour directly without straining for more texture.
  7. Garnish with a fresh mint sprig and a lemon wedge.
  8. Optional: top with a splash of club soda for a fizzy touch.

Notes

Do not over-muddle the mint to avoid bitterness. Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for best flavor. Crushed ice chills and dilutes the drink better than cubes. Serve immediately to enjoy fresh mint aroma. Simple syrup can be substituted with honey syrup or maple syrup. For a low-sugar version, reduce or omit syrup.
