A simple, smooth, and strong cold brew concentrate made easily in a Mason jar with coarsely ground coffee and filtered water, steeped overnight for perfect mornings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (85 g) coarsely ground coffee beans (medium to dark roast recommended)
  • 4 cups (950 ml) cold or room temperature filtered water
  • Optional: pinch of cinnamon
  • Optional: 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional: sweeteners like simple syrup or honey (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Measure and grind your coffee to a coarse grind if using whole beans (about 5 minutes).
  2. Add 1 cup (85 g) of coarsely ground coffee to a clean quart-size Mason jar (32 oz / 950 ml).
  3. Pour 4 cups (950 ml) of cold or room temperature filtered water over the coffee grounds slowly to saturate evenly. Add optional cinnamon or vanilla extract now if desired.
  4. Stir gently with a spoon or stir stick to mix coffee and water thoroughly, ensuring no dry clumps remain.
  5. Seal the Mason jar tightly with its lid and refrigerate for 12-15 hours to steep overnight.
  6. After steeping, strain the coffee concentrate through a fine mesh strainer lined with a coffee filter or cheesecloth into a clean container to remove grounds and sediment.
  7. Transfer the strained cold brew concentrate back into the Mason jar or an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
  8. To serve, dilute the concentrate with an equal part of water, milk, or dairy alternative (1:1 ratio), then pour over ice. Add sweeteners or flavorings if desired.

Notes

Use coarsely ground coffee to avoid bitterness and cloudiness. Refrigerate during steeping to prevent fermentation and off-flavors. Strain twice if sediment remains for a smoother cup. Adjust steeping time to control strength and bitterness. Store concentrate in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks. Dilute 1:1 with water or milk before serving.
