Spooky Witches Brew Green Punch - featured image

A glowing green punch that’s tart, sweet, and creamy, perfect for Halloween parties. This easy recipe uses lime sherbet, pineapple juice, and lemon-lime soda for a crowd-pleasing drink that looks like a real potion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 quart lime sherbet
  • 4 cups unsweetened pineapple juice
  • 4 cups lemon-lime soda (e.g., Sprite or 7-Up)
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 34 drops green food coloring (optional)
  • Ice ring or ice cubes
  • 12 pounds dry ice (optional, for effect)
  • Gummy worms and plastic spiders (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Make the ice ring (optional, do this the night before): Fill a ring mold or small bundt pan halfway with water. Arrange gummy worms and plastic spiders in the water, then freeze until solid. Add more water to fill the mold and freeze completely. This takes about 6-8 hours.
  2. Juice your limes: Roll 2-3 limes on the counter under your palm to soften them. Cut in half and juice until you have 1/4 cup. Set aside.
  3. Mix the juice base: In your large pitcher or mixing bowl, combine the 4 cups of pineapple juice, the 1/4 cup of fresh lime juice, and 3-4 drops of green food coloring if you’re using it. Stir well. This base can be made up to 24 hours ahead and stored in the fridge.
  4. Soften the sherbet: Take the lime sherbet out of the freezer about 10 minutes before you’re ready to serve. You want it soft enough to scoop easily but not completely melted.
  5. Assemble the punch: Just before serving, pour the juice base into your punch bowl. Add the 4 cups of lemon-lime soda. Stir gently to combine — you don’t want to lose all the carbonation.
  6. Add the sherbet: Scoop the softened lime sherbet into the punch bowl in large dollops. Use a whisk to gently stir until the sherbet is mostly incorporated but a few small floating pieces remain.
  7. Add the ice ring: Carefully place your frozen ice ring into the punch bowl, gummy worms facing up. If you didn’t make an ice ring, just add regular ice cubes.
  8. Add dry ice (optional, for fog effect): Using tongs and wearing gloves, place small chunks of dry ice in a separate small bowl that floats in the punch. Never put dry ice directly in the punch where someone might drink it.
  9. Garnish and serve: Drop a few extra gummy worms around the edges of the bowl. Place plastic spiders on the rim for that extra creepy touch. Serve immediately in clear cups so everyone can see the color.

Notes

Dry ice safety: Always use gloves or tongs when handling dry ice. Never put it directly into the punch where someone could accidentally scoop it up. Use a separate floating bowl or a small metal container. Never seal dry ice in a closed container. Chill all ingredients beforehand for best results. The punch is best consumed within 2 hours of preparation.
