  • 1 ½ cups (360 ml) fresh orange juice
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) grenadine syrup
  • 3 tablespoons (about 21 grams) unflavored gelatin powder
  • ½ cup (120 ml) cold water
  • 2 tablespoons (25 grams) sugar (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) fresh lime juice
  • Optional garnishes: thin orange slices, maraschino cherries, small cocktail umbrellas

Instructions

  1. Bloom the gelatin: Sprinkle 3 tablespoons of unflavored gelatin over ½ cup cold water in a small bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes until spongy.
  2. Prepare the orange layer: Gently warm 1 ½ cups fresh orange juice with 2 tablespoons sugar (if using) in a small saucepan, stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat.
  3. Dissolve gelatin: Add the bloomed gelatin to the warm orange juice and stir thoroughly until completely dissolved. Avoid boiling.
  4. Add tequila and lime: Stir in 1 cup tequila and 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice into the orange gelatin mixture. Mix well.
  5. Pour the first layer: Carefully pour the orange-tequila gelatin into mini cups, filling about halfway. Refrigerate for 1 to 1 ½ hours until firm but slightly tacky.
  6. Prepare the grenadine layer: Mix ¼ cup grenadine syrup with 1 tablespoon cold water. Keep cool but do not chill.
  7. Add second layer: Gently pour the grenadine mixture over the set orange layer using the back of a spoon. Refrigerate for another 30–45 minutes until fully set.
  8. Garnish and serve: Add a tiny orange slice or maraschino cherry on top. Serve chilled and enjoy responsibly.

Notes

Use fresh orange juice for best flavor. Bloom gelatin properly to avoid lumps. Pour layers slowly over the back of a spoon to keep layers distinct. Can increase tequila by ¼ cup for stronger taste but may affect firmness. Store in refrigerator up to 3 days. Avoid freezing.
